The Sandy Ridge Wind Farm is a 25-turbine, 50-megawatt renewable energy project that will produce enough clean electricity for 15,000 homes. The majority of the proposed project is divided between Taylor Township, Centre County, and Snyder Township, Blair County. As many as 15 windmills will be located on property that Tyrone Borough owns in Snyder Township.
Gamesa has proposed a lease agreement with Tyrone Borough that would pay approximately $4 million, including royalty payments, over the 30-year life of the project. The guaranteed minimum payment would be $91,000 a year. At a time when our economy is slowing, with no end in sight, Tyrone Borough and its residents stand to benefit financially by embracing a clean energy future. Having this guaranteed revenue source could be crucial to the long-term viability and future growth of the borough.
